2010 GRANT AWARDS

A World of Possibilities

This year, we received requests for Parent Support & Education Grants from across Washington asking us to help more than 5,700 parents and children. These grants will provide vital support and training to prevent child abuse and neglect. A gift from you today will ensure that these families are given the support they need.

Choose prevention. Give today.

2009 GRANT AWARDS MARK $1 MILLION GIVEN TO SUPPORT WASHINGTON FAMILIES BY CHILDREN'S TRUST FOUNDATION

Children's Trust Foundation awarded $206,000 in grants supporting programs that prevent child abuse and neglect across Washington.  With awards funding critical elements of each prevention program, these grants bridge the gap created by more than $1.4 million of cuts to state prevention agencies during this year's budget crisis.

“Job losses and economic pressures have put pressures on all parents and families this year,” said Tracy Sarich, Executive Director of Children’s Trust Foundation. “Programs supported by Children’s Trust Foundation provide real community support and information now, when families need it most.”

All grant recipients offer parenting programs focused on research-based methods that help parents learn how to successfully raise healthy kids, despite the economic challenges and other stressors that most often lead to child abuse and neglect. Programs like Strengthening Multi-Ethnic Families, Love and Logic, and Community Cafes all model positive parenting. They show parents how to bond with their children and create opportunities to form lasting support systems among the members of their communities.

2009 Children's Trust Foundation grants will serve more than 2,400 families, more than 3,200 parents and children, in over 25 programs across 12 counties. These families include military families, families with special-needs children, and families whose first languages include Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Ukranian, and Vietnamese, among others.

“Family support centers work with communities in ways that respect their language, culture, religion, and personal history. Programs that incorporate this value give parents the opportunity to change their lives and the lives of their family in meaningful and long lasting ways,” said Winnie Corral, Program Manager for Familias Unidas and a Children’s Trust Foundation board member.

From 1997 to 2009, Children's Trust Foundation has granted more than $1 million to 50 family support centers located in 15 Counties around Washington State (see chart below).
