25th Anniversary Celebration

We celebrated 25 years strong at a sold out dinner and silent auction featuring Dr. John Medina and his new book Brain Rules for Baby.

Congratulations to Barbara Boster-Phillips, our 2010 Champion of Family Support, for her extraordinary passion, enthusiasm, and efforts to further child abuse and neglect prevention and family support, and Robin Higa, our winner of the 2010 Janet Miller Award for Family Support Excellence, for her innovative, inspirational work empowering parents through the Community Café Collaborative of Washington. Special thanks to the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, University of Washington Athletics, Andrea Martin from Foodista.com, Jenny Deonigi, and Evangeline Café for their invaluable volunteer help.

A big thank you to our sponsors for the event: Aspect, Foundation for Early Learning, City Flowers, and Chelsea Malmquist of Seven the Salon.

Forum on family support

Our 2nd Annual Forum held on October 22, 2011 engaged nearly 80 professionals from across Washington State for training and discussion. Participants learned how to work more effectively with fathers, support families during difficult economic times, received a community cafe training, and heard the latest studies in child abuse and neglect prevention.

Dad's Night Out

On September 15, 2011, Children's Trust Foundation held its 1st Annual Dad’s Night Out at the Columbia Tower Room. The evening featured an intimate gathering of guests who enjoyed an entertaining interview with special guest, former NBA star, Todd MacCulloch, a silent auction, and a great selection of raffle prizes.  Together we raised more than $7,500 for Parent Support & Education grants—and had a great time together.

A storm of prevention

On June 11, 2010, the Seattle Storm beat the Los Angeles Sparks at a hot home game spotlighting Children’s Trust Foundation and the power of prevention. This special event celebrated empowered parents and families and was made possible thanks to the dream of Children's Trust Foundation board member, Barbara Boster-Phillips.

Supporting Latino Families

In 2009, nearly 50% of our grants supported programs for Latino families. Now, we are working to support Latino families in even greater numbers with partnerships with Latino business leaders and Spanish-speaking parenting classes. For 25 years, Children's Trust Foundation has been dedicated to culturally-sensitive programs. If you would like to support programs that serve Latino families across Washington, contact us.

Do you remember?

Flying High For Kids

April 1989 marked the first of many Children’s Trust Foundation Flying High for Kids auctions. Co-chaired by Sibby DeForest, one of our treasured Past Presidents, and Rochelle Youngren, a current board member, the event brought together local celebrities, personalities, and community leaders to both model and bid on generously donated items. “It was a lot of work,” recalls Rochelle Youngren, “but exciting!” The work was worth the effort—netting $27,000 in its first year and growing each year after. In 1990, the audience included Governor Booth and Mayor Norman B. Rice, and the auction continued as one of the longest-standing fundraising initiatives in Children’s Trust Foundation’s history. This event was followed by other auctions sponsored by the University of Washington’s Kappa Delta sorority, whose efforts provided vital support to our grants program. Today, the Children’s Trust Foundation board is planning new opportunities to support Washington families. Contact us if you would like to help.

Little Bebop's Playgroup

In 2005, the Family Support Center of South Snohomish County launched the Little Bebop’s Playgroup with a Children’s Trust Foundation grant in order to serve the multiethnic, low-income families living at Lynnwood’s Whispering Pines apartment complex. From the beginning, Little Bebop’s reached out to Islamic families, providing a free playgroup for children and a sewing and fellowship circle for mothers. This was not just any sewing circle, though—the program provided information to strengthen their families and help them become better parents, connected them to resources, and created a warm, welcoming environment for Muslim mothers to sew hijabs, traditional Islamic garbs, which were otherwise difficult to find in Snohomish County. This innovative, culturally-sensitive program is only one example of the ways in which Children’s Trust Foundation grants meet families where they live, provide safe settings to connect and learn about how to strengthen their families, and promote the protective factors that national research has shown to reduce child abuse and neglect.
