Margaret's Story

As an infant, Margaret was all smiles. So were her parents. But when Margaret turned one, her father lost his job and their home went into foreclosure. Financial pressures left her parents exhausted and short-tempered. The once smiling Margaret became a fussy, difficult to soothe toddler. Family life wasn't going as planned.

Thanks to Children’s Trust, Margaret's mom found a Play and Learn class in her neighborhood and learned how to become a better parent. She learned about Margaret’s developmental needs. And she found other parents to talk to and learn from. By the end of the class, she learned how to manage the frustrations that happen when raising a toddler and take a healthy breather during other stressful times.

While not all of the stresses in Margaret’s family went away, her mom learned how to make sure that the adult pressures that she and her husband faced didn’t become unintentional dangers for Margaret.
