Doan Vera Bosler passed away April 25, 2010 in Yakima, surrounded by her loving family.

She had the heart and the courage of a lion. She may have been small in stature but her aura was grand.

She and her Grandma Harts understood and adored each other. Doan Vera’s own mother thought she was a handful. She saw life as an adventure and a challenge to be tackled. She was sometimes disappointed but never defeated. She was not a woman to bow to adversity.

Doan Vera could hunt and fish with the best of sportsmen. She could fly a plane and drive a dump truck. She knew where the morel mushrooms were hiding in the woods and the white mushrooms were protected in the grasses. She knew where to harvest the season's first asparagus and collect watercress for our special meals.

Doan Vera was not a "June Cleaver." Being domestic was not her idea of life. She instead focused on running her own many businesses and raising her family. This independence was not always popular with the other mothers but their disapproval did not deter her. She not only heard the beat of a distant drummer, she heard the entire orchestra.

Doan Vera did not gossip nor was she critical of others. She just did not suffer fools. She made friends that lasted a lifetime. Theirs not hers. And when her friends of many years had all passed away her love of life did not waver.

Doan Vera had the curiosity of Beryl Markem, the will of Karen Blixon, and the tenacity and accuracy of Annie Oakley. She was complex, talented, insightful, intuitive, determined, undaunted and protective. Not to mention formidable. Doan Vera could make you wither with a glance and make you wildly happy with a hug.

In addition to being the heart of her family, Doan Vera was glamorous and a romantic at heart. Due to her being ahead of her time, it was a challenge for her to find a life partner that could equal her independence and passion for life. As a result, Doan Vera chose to spend most of her life on her own. But she did have a familya big one. As a foster mother, Doan Vera was a receiving home for hundreds of children over the years.

Doan Vera was revered by both her grandchildren and great grandchildren. "Nana" as she was called, was the matriarch of our family and passed down immeasurable gifts to her many granddaughters and grandsons. She taught them a zest for life, the value of creativity, an appreciation for the outdoors, a love of science, an interest in other cultures, a pride that cannot be broken and strength that cannot be explained. She loved them all for who they are and they admired her beyond imagination.
In the final days of Mom's life she was still beautiful and there was grace in her every move. Delicate and deliberate.

Weher familyhave lost so much. She not only left her mark on our hearts she left her mark on this world and there is now a void that will be impossible to fill. We can only hope that her indomitable spirit will continue to guide us and give us strength in this great time of sorrow. The angels have reached down and taken a flower and left us a sadness impossible to explain.
