Arnulfo's Story: The gift that keeps on giving

When 9-year-old Arnulfo visited First Step Family Support Center with his family, he had no idea that he would literally save a life.

While attending a parenting class funded by Children's Trust Foundation, he and his family learned CPR and first aid as a way to keep their family safe.

When Dr. Lili Dodd, the class teacher, asked for audience participation, Arnulfo volunteered to be a mock choking victim, and watched carefully as she instructed on how to save a person from going into respiratory arrest.

Shortly after the class, Arnulfo went to the playground and saw that Sebastian, age 2, was choking on a piece of candy. Arnulfo used the technique that he had just learned in his class and popped the candy from Sebastian's throat.

Arnulfo was recently honored with the Lifesaving Hero Award at the Red Cross' Real Heroes Dinner for his lifesaving help.

With your support, parents and children will continue to attend parenting support classes that keep their families safe from abuse and neglect, and sometimes even save lives.
