- Parent-Child Interaction Training (PCIT) is part of a comprehensive program, based on family support principles, provided by Encompass. Through one-on-one coaching, parents learn consistent behavior management skills, positive communication skills and ways to increase each child’s motivation to please and mind the rules. While engaged in play activities, each parent receives instruction through a receiver worn behind the ear and can immediately change unproductive responses to their child’s behavior. Criticism and questioning are replaced with praise and positive reinforcement. Parents are show how to give clear age-appropriate instructions and feedback while providing consistent well-communicated consequences. This coaching in a structured setting helps parents understand how best to apply these new skills when at home.
